Pinellas County, Florida -- This year, more than 30 Pinellas County public elementary schools have registered to “Walk the Walk/Walk This Way” on Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the 2011 Walk to School to school event, a project of the Suncoast SAFE KIDS coalition and All Children’s Hospital.
Students will walk to and from school, while parents and child safety advocates teach them pedestrian and bicycle safety and examine potential traffic dangers surrounding their schools. School Board members Carol Cook will walk with Belcher Elementary and Robin Wikle will walk with Lake St. George Elementary.
The first National Walk our Children to School Day began in 1997 in Chicago. Currently all 50 states participate in this annual event to promote student safety.
